The Family Values Worksheet
The first and best place to start with parent contracts is with your family values.
When was the last time you sat with your kids and actually went over your family values? Most parents just assume that their children have a clear understanding of their family values. However most kids don't really have a picture of what your family values, ideals and morals really are.
A great example this is explained by one parent that wrote in. "When I sat down with my kids to go over the values contract, I just came out and asked them what our family values are, figuring that they would breeze right through them. Much to my surprise my kids had no idea. My youngest concocted her version but it wasn't what I thought I had instilled in them over the years of raising them..."
When a child is left with a "spotty canvas" or a sort of "fill in the blanks" as to family values you will be surprised what they are putting in there. Don't let TV, their peers, or anyone or thing else form your child's moral compass. One family tells us that they go over their family values every week at the family meeting to reinforce their family's stance on integrity, honesty, morality, purity, responsibility, respect and so on.
Take time to go over this contract with your kids let them know what is at your family's core and why. Give this contract some time and it will leave a lasting impression with your kids, one that may be passed down for generations.
Values contract help you and your family develop and/or reinforce

We have an outlined a list of common values, but make sure you customize it. Add to it and/or take away from it, modify this to be as specific to your family as possible.
Remember Mom and Dad this is a team effort. This is your opportunity to set an example in your child's life. Don't take a "do as I say and not as I do" attitude. Kids see right through that and then they lack the respect for you that is needed to make a lasting change for the better.
Follow the values contract up with specific contracts such as...
- Dating
- Driving
- General Behavior
- Privileges
